Document / File Sharing
One of the large data movement requirements is the bulk transfer of files between two network domains, either within an operating entity or between separate entities. Moving files may require a network connection thereby creating vulnerabilities and permitting access by unauthorized persons.
When files need to leave an enclave and cross an electronic perimeter, security requirements should be considered. A one-way link permits the movement of the files off the source network to another location without creating an access point into the source network. The receiving network also does not want to open an avenue to unauthorized access thus the use of a one-way inbound transfer link avoids this potential vulnerability.
A variety of tools are available to move files, such as FTP and
Remote File Transfer Service (RFTS) across a network. The tools are agnostic to the application data and only provide the transport protocol for the payload movement. Consequently, a source such as a VMS system could use FTP to move the file to the boundary crossing point and
Secure Network Packet Transfer System (SNTS) could provide the secure transfer across the network boundary.
The quality of service features incorporated into RFTS and SNTS provide the confidence of timely and accurate file movement.
