Gartner® Selects Owl Computing Technologies®
as a Gartner 2012 Cool Vendor
Owl Industrial Control Systems Cybersecurity
Recognized in Two Cool Vendor Reports

Ridgefield, Connecticut, May 31, 2012 – Earlier this month, Owl Computing Technologies, Inc., the premier source for cybersecurity in cross domain information sharing and electronic perimeter defense, was named a Gartner Cool Vendor 2012 in two individual reports: one on Information/Operations Technology (IT/OT) integration in the industrial control systems space; the second, in the Asia/Pacific market. Gartner defines a Cool Vendor as a company that offers technologies or solutions that are innovative, impactful and intriguing.

In selecting Owl Computing for Information/Operations technology integration, the Gartner report states that: “Owl Computing Technologies delivers a high-speed network "perimeter defense" device that combines the functions of data historian collection across a variety of different systems and what the networking industry calls a one-way data transfer system (aka Data Diode). . . . Owl Computing is cool in its ability to deliver both services in a number of industrial control environments with a high degree of security. Owl Computing addresses several of the requirements for the NERC/CIP standards, an important set of regulations for North American utilities and a starting point for many OT-centric industries when securing their infrastructure.”

Dr. Ron Mraz, Owl President & CTO, agrees with the drive toward IT/OT integration: “As Gartner notes in the report findings and recommendations, cybersecurity is more than compliance with regulations. The ability for utilities to make business decisions from real-time process observations, while maintaining the electronic perimeter security of industrial control networks, is central to infrastructure reliability and service delivery.”

Ron added: “We at Owl are gratified for this recognition by Gartner. Coupled with our energy & utilities customers’ wholehearted acceptance of Owl Perimeter Defense Solutions, we are setting our sights on being the security solution for an even wider range of industrial control system (ICS) network operators. Other segments of critical infrastructure, commercial manufacturers, all those who employ ICS to run their operations, can benefit from networks Secured by Owl®.”
