Ridgefield, Connecticut, May 18, 2011 -- Owl Computing Technologies, Inc., the premier source for cross domain information sharing and electronic IT perimeter defense, has been granted US Patent 7,941,526 B1 for “Transmission of Syslog Messages over a One-Way Link,” dated May 10, 2011. Syslog (system logging) messages are a standardized method for network devices and processes to report to network administrators on problems or performance. As a standard, syslog can integrate log event data from many different types of systems into a central repository. The Owl Computing patent award confirms how syslog traffic can be securely transferred across Owl DualDiode® Technology, for analysis and subsequent administrative actions.
“This patent highlights the flexibility of Owl one-way data transfer solutions,” said Dr. Ron Mraz, Owl Computing President & CTO. “Syslog is a broadly implemented method for gathering performance data from network devices. Our ability to move syslog messages -- with source information intact across secure one-way solutions -- gives our information assurance customers another tool for managing their networks.”
Ron continued: “Our syslog support enables networks using Windows Event Manager to harden net administration via our hardware-enforced, assured one-way transfer. And, customers using various Security Information and Event Managers (SIEMs), can send SIEM data in syslog format for secure transfer to log repositories & data analysis sites.”
Coupled with DualDiode hardware, or included in a complete Owl transfer solution, syslog transfer support is in general product availability.
